Penn State Saturday Art School

Pre K
Spring 2015

Penn State Saturday Art School

Over the spring semester of 2015, I had the opportunity to teach 24 Pre-K children with a fellow graduate student as a mentor, under the supervision of Dr. Christine M. Thompson, professor of Art Education at Penn State. Student teachers and mentors prepared for each class together during weekdays and friends came to class every Saturday morning for 8 weeks. We also had an amazing exhibition at Zoller Gallery after wrapping up the 8 weeks of class.
Our overarching theme of the semester was "The Story of Nature". We explored nature in different aspects, such as growing our own sunflower pots, learning about our environment, and imagining inside our bodies. Saturday Art School not only changed my perspective towards children's art, but also allowed me to learn how to be friends with young children.
